Peaceful Discipline: Story Teaching, Brain Science & Better Behavior by Sarah R. Moore was a parenting book that offered something new for me, story teaching. Moore explained how parents and guardians can use stories along with emotion coaching to assist their children to feel validated and safe as they experience life’s ups and downs.

These teachable stories can be true or made up. The author gives you the tools to teach your family through stories. Don’t have the spoons to come up with the stories yourself? Have no fear! Part Six of her book contains sample stories of common scenarios for children, such as anxiety and a fear of the dark.

Throughout the book, Moore shares personal stories to teach the reader. Some are tender, others are hilarious, but all perfectly depict an example of the current topic. She writes with humility, compassion, and expertise, sharing knowledge from prominent authors such as Daniel J. Siegel, MD, and Dr. Mona Delahooke. As a cycle-breaking gentle parent myself, it is easy to feel alone on this journey. Moore’s book gave me hope, validation, and additional tools to continue down this path.

If you are searching for a more peaceful way to teach your children, check out Peaceful Discipline by Sarah R. Moore. It is full of valuable information and resources to continue learning. Having read it electronically, I hope to purchase a physical copy to reference in the coming years.
