Good Moms Have Scary Thoughts: A Healing Guide to the Secret Fears of New Mothers by Karen Kleinman could make an ideal gift for especially soon-to-be or new mothers. It paints a picture of potential struggles when entering parenthood.

Check it out!

I have no regrets, but I wish someone told me how hard being a parent was and/or told me to begin healing my inner child as soon as I left my childhood home. This book was validating in so many ways. What struck a chord was that a new mother not only gains so much but also loses things, too: autonomy, privacy, and confidence to name only three.

This book would make a great Mother’s Day gift. A warning for those that care: it goes over heavy topics such as post-partum depression, post-partum anxiety, post-partum psychosis, and more. These topics are needed, but the illustration’s conversation bubbles could be triggering for some.

Overall, I found the book helpful and validating. Definitely keep it mind for any expecting or new parents. Do you have a helpful book for mothers/parents? Please share in the comments. Make sure to check out other non-fiction posts for more good reads.
