For Little Readers

Mighty Reader Monday has several posts. This blog post shares great reads that educate about dendrology. There are picture books and an educational comic that goes into depth on trees. Check them out. Something else noteworthy is the beautiful picture books by Roy Henry Vickers. I mentioned two of his books in the blog posts Swimming Hedgehogs and Mama Needs a Minute. The illustrations are simple yet stunning.

Three Non-fiction Reads for Adults

First off is an eye-opening read about forest bathing. It is a term coined in Japan that is the simple act of being among the trees. Forest Bathing: How Trees Can Help You Find Health and Happiness by Dr. Qing Li explains the many benefits of forest bathing such as improving mental and physical health. You read that right! Being among the trees improves your overall health. Read this blog post for more info or just read the book.

I know there is current news regarding the Dalai Lama, but I still can’t help sharing his most recent book, Heart to Heart: A Conversation on Love and Hope for Our Precious Planet. He calls all humans to make conscious choices when walking the earth. I found it inspiring.

Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants. Her writing is poetic and if you listen to the author read her book, you’re in for a treat. She speaks of the beauty of the earth and our need to preserve it. It is a must-read! Read more about it in this blog post. Check out the young adult version of the book too!
