Firefighter Gil! (Bubble Guppies) by Mary Tillworth

We know the Bubble Guppies show in our house. When I brought this book home, one of my littles grabbed it and asked to read it. It is a cute story about Gil wanting to be a firefighter, meeting real ones, then becoming a hero. Mr. Grouper and the gang are there for the ride as well.

The Berenstain Bears Clean House by Stan & Jan Berenstain

I can’t help but collect these books. I read so many as a kid. In this one, the Berenstain family decides to unclutter their home and have a yard sale. Then they feel it is difficult to let go. It’s a cute story that shows our plans don’t always go as we think.

Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan

I never read this novel until I was in my 30s. It is a sweet story for 6-10-year-olds. A widower turns to the newspaper and writes an advertisement for a wife. A woman named Sarah replies, and a new family forms. I need to reread this story with my kids this time.

Wishtree by Katherine Applegate

I read this one a few years ago. It was my first book where the main character was a tree. It is about Red, a neighborhood oak tree, and its animal friends. Red watches over the neighborhood, serves as the community ‘wishtree,’ and then plays a vital role when a new family moves in. This is a beautiful story about inclusion.

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

I grabbed this book because it has the Newbery Medal seal on it. This novel is a whodunit book for 8-12-year-olds. It is about a girl Miranda who receives mysterious notes asking her to write letters and share nothing with others. Someone predicts future events, which convinces Miranda that she needs to take action to help others. When You Reach Me sounds like an interesting read.
