Running on Empty

This next book, Running on Empty, is one that should be read by everyone. It contains vital information that could benefit your life, the lives of your children, your grandchildren, and beyond. I may even be bold enough to say it could change the world if humanity applied the contents of this book into their lives.  Intrigued? Let’s begin.

Childhood Emotional Neglect

Most parents want to do a good job of parenting their children. Running on Empty: Overcome Your Childhood Emotional Neglect by Jonice Webb, PhD with Christine Musello, PsyD is terrific and can assist in the process. It was just what I needed for my self-healing journey too. Three parts make up the contents of this book.

Check it out!

Part One begins by explaining why our emotional tanks weren’t filled in childhood.. The remaining content of Part One describes twelve different types of parents that leave children emotionally empty. You may identify parts of your parents and even yourself within these descriptions and explanations.

Part Two covers ten themes an emotionally neglected child exhibits as an adult. You will discover parts of yourself within these pages that will be revelatory and validating. Part Two ends with an important chapter that addresses suicide.

Part Three discusses change, feelings, self-care tips, ending the cycle (of childhood emotional neglect), and more. In Chapter 7 entitled “Self-Care” Webb includes change sheets to help the reader grow. One particular sheet, “Asking for Help,” is one I need to implement but the idea of asking others for help makes my skin crawl. I have room to grow for sure.

As I began the post,  this book will change lives. Your life. The lives of your posterity. The world. Please invest in yourself and those you love by buying this book. I will be rereading this book often. There is so much to absorb. I also need to read Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child by John Gottman, PhD pronto!
