What is Fire Cider?

I first heard about fire cider a few years ago; I tasted some as well. Basically, health-boosting common items such as onions, garlic, horseradish, ginger, etc., are grated then steeped in apple cider vinegar for a period of time. Many claim it wards off colds, sickness, and more. Steeping things in a dark closet has always scared me. Who wants to accidentally grow the wrong thing?

A Book to Explain It all

While on a trip to the library, I came across a book display that included Fire Cider!: 101 Zesty Recipes For Health-Boosting Remedies Made with Apple Cider Vinegar. Intrigued, I decided to bring it home. Once home, I read the intro pages, scanned the recipes, and decided to give it a go. Being early in the pandemic, I figured it was time to put on my big-person pants and face my fear of fermentation.

Apple Cider vinegar Benefits and more

The book is extensive in that it covers the history of apple cider vinegar, its uses over the past thousands of years, and more. It includes some apple cider vinegar uses for remedies such as a sore throat, heartburn, exhaustion, etc. The bulk of the book contains various fire cider recipes that are both intriguing and inspiring. As an added bonus, there are many meal recipes that include vinegar and fire cider. I initially concocted four batches of different fire ciders. The book is easy to read and follow, giving you the confidence to move forward.

I have created my own fire cider recipe with Gladstar’s inspiration that has pleased the palates of many. I am sold on it and will continue to keep fire cider in my home, especially during cold and flu season. The process wasn’t as scary as I thought. Rosemary Gladstar and Friends wrote a fantastic book that I will reference often.
